How to Find Us

Who are we?

Ascension Church was founded by Bishop Leo T. Maher in 1980 with Msgr. Neal Dolan as its founding paster.

Its boundary was set as that of the fledgling community of Tierrasanta. The initial Sunday and Holy Day Masses took place in the auditorium of Miller Elementary School. Daily Masses were said in the rectory garage at the corner of La Cuenta and Clairemont Mesa Blvd. During that time a parish church site was acquired at the corner of Clairement Mesa Blvd. and Via Valarta. A multipurpose building was erected there in November of 1985. Father Jim Sassone succeeded Msgr. Dolan in 1987. He in turn was succeeded by Father Scott McColl in 1999, and by Father Charles Fuld in 2004.

Ascension Church is made up of about 800 registered families. Many more attend on special occasions. It has an active range of programs for children, teens, young adults and seniors, covering religious education, sacramental preparation and just plain fun social events.

Our advertisement in the local newspaper The Tierra Times announces Ascension Parish "welcomes all Catholics, 'former Catholics' and those who would like to inquire about our Faith." To this end our parish places special stress on hospitality, outreach to the sick, separated, divorced and widowed, and community involvement. Our annual Parish Fiesta welcomes everyone and is truly one of the highlight events of Tierrasanta.
